The 5 Best Web Design Agencies in Manchester

Updated 30 firms evaluated5 listedWorks with clients UK-wide

Web design agencies build on a platform, and that platform decides what your site can do and who can maintain it afterwards. Hiring is tricky because a Webflow studio and an Adobe Commerce house are not competing for the same job, even when both quote for yours. These are the five we rate. How we rank

Rank 01

Influx Digital

Best overall

Webflow Premium Partner in St Peter's Square.

Updated
Why they’re on this list
  • Webflow Premium Partner, which is awarded on delivered project volume and quality rather than bought, and the strongest platform credential of any studio here
  • Founded 2016 at 1 St Peters Square, independent, and states over 100 clients
  • Publishes a realistic timeline of 6 to 8 weeks for a new website, with a sprint option delivering in as little as 5 days for a simpler build
  • Also builds on Shopify, so a brochure site and a store can come from one team without a platform argument
  • Branding, SEO, PPC and CRO run alongside the build, which is what stops a new site launching without the rankings the old one had
  • Publishes no rates, offering a project planner instead
Rank 02

Create8

Best for ecommerce

Shopify Plus specialists with a decade of ecommerce behind them.

Updated
Why they’re on this list
  • An award-winning Shopify Plus agency, the enterprise tier of Shopify's partner programme, with over 10 years of experience and 500 or more brands helped
  • Based at the Merseyway Innovation Centre in Stockport, so Greater Manchester rather than the city centre
  • Runs CRO and paid media alongside the build, which matters because a store redesign that lowers conversion is worse than no redesign
  • Named clients span consumer and industrial, including Ricoh, JCB, Whitakers Chocolates and Cheltenham College
  • Also builds WordPress and bespoke sites, so the Shopify specialism is not a constraint if the project turns out not to need it
  • Publishes no team size or pricing
Rank 03

CTI Digital

Best for complex builds

The largest technical build agency in the city.

Updated
Why they’re on this list
  • Around 23 years of trading, registered in England and Wales under company number 04884651, which makes it one of the oldest digital agencies in Manchester
  • Client list is weighted to large and public sector organisations including Chester Zoo, Mind, the British Council and the University of Bedfordshire, which is a different kind of build entirely
  • Covers CMS, ecommerce, apps, UX, CRO and hosting, so the site is supported after launch rather than handed over
  • HubSpot Solutions Partner, and a finalist in the UK Agency Awards 2026
  • Runs AI consulting and private LLM work, which is unusual for a build agency and worth interrogating rather than taking at face value
  • Enterprise pricing and enterprise process. The wrong shape for a ten-page brochure site, and they will say so
Rank 04

MadeByShape

Ten people, Craft CMS, and organic built into the build.

Updated
  • Founded 2010 in Atherton and deliberately still around ten staff, with a co-founder having written publicly about why they did not scale to thirty
  • Verified Craft CMS and Craft Commerce professional partner, which is a real specialism and a real constraint if your team expects WordPress
  • Builds on Shopify regularly as well, so ecommerce is not off the table
  • Organic SEO is considered during the build rather than retrofitted, which avoids the classic outcome of a new site losing its rankings on launch day
  • Branding runs alongside, so a rebrand and a rebuild can be one project
  • Client work includes Gary Neville, YMU and Sketch Studios, so brand-led rather than volume
Rank 05

PushON

Adobe Commerce house for large catalogues.

Updated
  • Adobe Solution Partner since 2012 with certified Adobe Commerce developers, working from Waulk Mill on Bengal Street in Ancoats
  • Over 15 years of Magento and Adobe Commerce work, which is the platform for large catalogues, complex pricing and B2B trade accounts
  • Migrations and platform audits are a core service, and a botched replatform is the fastest way to destroy a decade of organic performance
  • Hyvä theme development in house, which is the current answer to Magento's long-standing front-end performance problem
  • Clients include Silver Cross, Russell Hobbs, MSC Industrial and Brandon Hire Station, so B2B and considered-purchase retail rather than fashion
  • Wrong fit for a small brochure site. The whole practice is built around large, complicated stores

Choose the platform, then the agency

The platform decision outlives the agency relationship, so make it first.

Webflow suits marketing sites where a non-technical team needs real control. Fast to build, hosted by Webflow, hard to leave.

Shopify is the default for retail. Everything is solved, you pay for it in fees and in flexibility.

WordPress has the deepest talent pool and the largest maintenance burden.

Adobe Commerce is for large catalogues and B2B trade pricing. Powerful, expensive, needs specialists permanently.

Craft CMS is genuinely good and the pool of people who know it is small.

Each firm here is strongest on one of these. An agency that claims equal expertise in all five is telling you about its sales process.

Three questions before you sign

  • Who maintains this in two years? The honest answer decides the platform.
  • Who writes the redirect map? The single most expensive thing to get wrong.
  • Do we own the code and could another agency take it over? Watch for proprietary CMS lock-in.

Red flags

  • A proprietary CMS the agency built. You cannot leave, and nobody else can quote for changes.
  • No redirect map in the project plan for a redesign.
  • The domain registered in the agency's name rather than yours.
  • A fixed quote with no discovery. Either scope is undefined or the design is already a template.
  • No maintenance or hosting conversation in the proposal. It is coming either way, and it is better in the budget than in a surprise.

When a template is the right answer

If you are pre-revenue, testing a proposition, or running a business where the website is a credibility check rather than a sales channel, a well-chosen theme configured properly will do the job for a few thousand pounds. Spend the difference on the thing that actually brings customers.

Pay for a bespoke build when the site is the sales channel, when you need integrations with systems you already run, or when the catalogue is large enough that merchandising is a real job. That is also the point at which the SEO shortlist becomes the more important page, because the build and the rankings are the same conversation.

Frequently asked

A small brochure site on a template runs £2,000 to £6,000. A bespoke marketing site with custom design, a CMS and 10 to 20 pages is £8,000 to £25,000. A Shopify store with custom theme work is £10,000 to £40,000 depending on integrations. Adobe Commerce or a large custom build starts around £50,000 and goes well past £200,000. Ongoing costs are the ones people forget: hosting, platform licences, a maintenance retainer of £200 to £1,500 a month, and Shopify Plus alone starts around £2,000 a month.
